Calling all history buffs and fashionistas! This costume is surprisingly easy to create yourself, and allows you to unleash your creativity with a touch of royal flair.

Dress for Excess

The key to a Marie Antoinette costume is extravagance. Look for a light blue or pastel pink dress in a rich fabric like satin or taffeta or lace. Thrift stores are a treasure trove for finding these types of dresses at a fraction of the cost. I personally thrifted my costume and styled it with thigh high lace stockings, pink boots and pearls.

Pompadour Perfection

Marie Antoinette's signature hairstyle, the pouf, is both impressive and achievable. If you have long hair, tease it up high and curl the ends. You can add extensions for extra volume. I have always pictured the princess to have blonde hair and opted for a blonde wig off of Amazon.com. Accessorize with ribbons, feathers, and even miniature faux flowers to complete the look.

Accessorize Like Royalty

No queen is complete without her jewels! Layer on pearl necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. You can use costume jewelry or even craft your own with white beads and ribbon. Carrying a small fan or purse is also perfect. For the finishing touch, splurge on a mini cake or even cupcake topped with frosting!

Makeup Fit for a Queen

Marie Antoinette's makeup was all about creating a youthful, rosy complexion. Apply a light foundation and dust your face with translucent powder. Use a bright pink blush on the apples of your cheeks and a small amount of blue eyeshadow on your lids. Finish with a dramatic pair of false eyelashes and a dark red lip.

Let Them Eat Cake (and Compliments!)

With a little creativity and these simple tips, you'll be the most regal ghost at the Halloween ball. So dust off your metaphorical cake crumbs, and get ready to reign supreme this Halloween!
